Coasters TT
We started running our own time trials in May 2018. In true Coasters' style, they're very friendly affairs and we encourage you to take them as seriously as you like. Time trialling is a great way to experience competitive cycling for the first time, you don't need to worry about special equipment or other riders. It is just you and your bike against the clock.
It doesn't matter what your fitness level is, whether you're 22 or 82, male or female. If you can ride 10 miles on a public road then you can ride a time trial. It's not like a road race, where if you fall off the pack your race is over. Since the slower riders set off first, finish times cluster together.
You'll automatically get your personal best time (PB) in your first time trial. Whether it's 45:00, 36:15 or 25:12, that's your target to aim at next time. It doesn't matter what time anyone else got – first and foremost in a time trial, you're racing against yourself.

S110/10 CourseHistorically, time trials were shrouded in secrecy as cycle racing was banned on British roads. By riding separately, time triallists could be seen to be 'going about their normal business' rather than racing. Riders wore inconspicuous clothing and courses were given a code system – such as S110/10 – that's used to this day.
Nowadays you won't need to crack the code to take part. The Coasters events take place at St Eval around a disused airfield. The 10 mile course is relatively flat in comparison to the rest of Cornwall and a great place to start your time trialling campaign. |
How Do I Enter?
Time Trials are split into 3 categories, Come & Try, Club & Open. WCCC event's will be either Club or Open, each event has a different sign up process (explained below) however the do have two point's in common. You need to be a WCCC (or other CTT affiliated club) member to enter and you will need a red rear flashing or constant light.
Club - The Coasters "Club" events will be advertised on our Facebook page, there is no need to sign on until you arrive on the day. For non-club members there is a nominal fee to pay in order to enter the event however if you are a club member the committee as agreed to entries will be free of charge.
Open - The Coasters "Open" events will be advertised on our Facebook page along with a link to sign up. Open events are bigger, attracting riders from across the region or sometimes the country. You have to register in advance for an open event and there will be a fee for both club and non-club members. You don't need a racing licence for either type of event; membership in a CTT-affiliated club is sufficient.
