The Coasters Kids team want to encourage local young people aged 14 to 18 to come along and help out with our cycle coaching activities, and get involved with the Coasters in lots of other ways too!
Young volunteers programme for ages 14 to 18
The benefits to the club of extra pairs of hands and providing role models for younger children are obvious, but there are a lot of benefits for the teenagers too. British Cycling runs a Cycling Award for Young Volunteers which rewards time spent volunteering with perks such as free kit, BC membership, official award celebrations for outstanding volunteers, and even a coaching bursary.
The experience of getting involved also develops tangible leadership and communications skills, which are invaluable for CV-building and further education or employment applications. And of course getting involved with coaching is a brilliant way to improve your own cycle skills too! However, it's not just about Coasters Kids - the young volunteers also help out with the running of the club in other ways such as organising events and races, and being on club committees. All this doubles up nicely with Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme voluntary work requirements.
