We really are spoiled for choice for lovely roads to cycle around Wadebridge. We always like to mix it up a bit and explore new routes, but here is a sample of just a few that are commonly used for club rides.
Some are associated with one of the Coasters' ride leaders (so you know who to blame). Scroll down for our Roller Coaster routes! You'll find even more route ideas and roads to ride on our Local Challenges page. |
Snail's Pace57km with 760m climbing

This route takes us up onto Bodmin Moor to visit the beautiful Delphi Bridge. Harry has named it after its cafe stop - you can go as fast as you like!
|
ANdy's Saturday Best40km with 445m climbing
|
Andy is making life easy for us - this is about as flat a ride as you can do around here.
|
Dave's Bodders circuit90km with 1,380m climbing
|
Dave takes us all the way around Bodmin Moor. But that doesn't mean he's avoided the hills!
|
Phil's Hills50km with 1,065m climbing
|
If you enjoy short sharp climbs, you'll love this route. If you don't, you'd better focus on the scenery.
|
Hoi PoLloi Ahoy in Fowey86km with 1,310m climbing
|
Club Captain Dave leads us through a labyrinth of back roads - and throws a boat trip in to boot!
|
Harry's Porthcothan loop47km with 690m climbing
|
A lovely varied route from Harry - a bit of moorland, a bit of coast and a bit of Camel Trail at the end.
|
EVIl Genius41km with 1,073m climbing

This route was created by Dave Bolton as a practical joke. He managed to include a terrifying array of local killer climbs including the mythical Bishops Hill (although that may be the least of your worries).

The 2017 'Roller Coaster rides'
Nemesis33km (21 miles)
620m climbing |
This route explores the Ruthern Valley, a hidden gem just south of Wadebridge. If you want a cafe, you'll pass the Camel Trail Tea Garden just after going through Nanstallon.
|
The Beast60km (37 miles)
960m climbing |
The coast immediately to the south of the Camel Estuary is spectacular and this route makes the most of it. Oh we do like to ride beside the seaside!
|
The Big One76km (47 miles)
1,200m climbing |
This awesome route includes spectacular coastline, dramatic moorland and fabulous views. It visits some of our favourite 'secret' places like Port Quin and Delphi Bridge, and it takes on some stonking climbs like Port Gaverne and Shell Woods.
|
Oblivion32km (20 miles)
585m climbing |
Is this route named for its nerve-shredding descents, or its leg-shredding climbs*? Maybe both. All the tough climbing is in the first half though - the second half is 'active recovery'.
* including the dreaded Bishops Hill, which scores 9/10 in Simon Warren's 'Another 100 Greatest Cycling Climbs'! |
Not only are these four routes good fun individually, but they we fitted them together as a set of loops to create our special 'Roller Coaster' club ride in 2017. How many loops can you ride in the same day...? |
One loop: Nemesis |
33km (21 miles)

The Camel Tor 2016
The 2016 Camel Tor event offered three alternative routes of 42, 85 or 111 miles, wittily named the 'Dromedary', 'Bactrican' and 'Humphrey' (get it?). Why not give them a go? All three explore the beautiful coast north of the Camel estuary, and also Bodmin Moor, with the longest ride going all the way up to Bude. The routes are all hilly, involving between 3,000 and nearly 10,000 feet of climbing.
