Coasters Kids coaching sessions provide invaluable training in techniques and skills, but at the end of the day, we all just want to get out and go for a bike ride! Coasters Kids Rides provide a transition to adult club rides, developing fitness and endurance alongside safe group riding and other skills.

Coasters Kids Rides are a great opportunity for parents and children to enjoy a bike ride together. If you are unable to ride with your child, please arrange in advance for another adult to do so (not the ride leader). Every child must have their own adult taking full responsibility for their safety. |
Wheels & Chainrings (Key stage 2)
The Wheels and Chainrings programmes occasionally include a group ride. This will often be in a traffic free environment but sometimes on very quiet minor roads. Either way, the ride will be tailored to the ability of the group. Taking children under 12 on road rides is not something that we do lightly! On Coasters Kids rides, all children MUST be accompanied and supervised by a parent or someone acting in loco parentis (see Coasters Kids requirements).
Sprockets (key stage 1)
The Sprockets programme occasionally includes an appropriately designed group ride. This will be in a traffic free environment such as the Camel Trail. On Coasters Kids rides, all children MUST be accompanied and supervised by a parent or someone acting in loco parentis (see Coasters Kids requirements).
We understand that most children (and parents!) only own one bike, so both on- and off-road rides should be rideable on a decent quality hybrid bike.
These are 'development rides', intended to build skills and stamina and may include a coaching element. Rides will become more challenging as the groups progress.

Road RidesRoutes are very carefully planned to avoid traffic and other hazards and various steps are taken to ensure the children are kept as safe as possible. We make good use of the Camel Trail and minor roads.

Off-Road RidesThese are generally mountain biking rides, but may also be more 'cyclocross' style. 'Off-road' rides may still include short sections ridden on quiet country roads.

As with our coaching sessions, we are particularly mindful of safeguarding on Coasters Kids Rides (hence some of the essential requirements we have to insist on). If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our club Welfare Officer, Paul Rea.
